Advancing patient-centered neurology: insights from Professor Patrick Vermersch, ParadigMS Foundation board member

By ParadigMS Foundation
We are proud to highlight the work of Professor Patrick Vermersch, ParadigMS Board Member and Director of the Graduate School for Biology and Health at the University of Lille.
Throughout his career, Professor Vermersch has made outstanding contributions to the fields of Multiple Sclerosis (MS) and neurodegenerative disease research.
From early studies on Tau proteins in Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s disease to groundbreaking work in MS biomarkers and treatment strategies, his research has consistently pushed the boundaries of neurology. He played a leading role in establishing a specialized MS care unit at Lille, enhancing patient-centered care, and later co-founded the PARCSeP network to expand support for both MS and Parkinson’s patients.
Professor Vermersch’s work with Bruton’s Tyrosine Kinase (BTK) inhibitors, masitinib, and CAR-T cell therapies represents some of the most promising new approaches in progressive MS treatment today. His research focus on early, intensive treatment strategies and the use of prognostic markers is helping to redefine how clinicians approach personalized care for MS patients.
In addition to his scientific leadership, Professor Vermersch’s vision extends to fostering collaboration across Europe. His involvement with the European Charcot Foundation, as well as initiatives like the MS Data Alliance, continues to shape the future of neurology research and education.
