Live Webinar on the Clinical management of NMOSD in Belgium

Neuromyelitis optica spectrum disorder (NMOSD) is a rare but highly disabling autoimmune disease that predominantly affects the optic nerves and spinal cord. Delayed or missed diagnosis can have life-changing consequences, but evolving diagnostic criteria and new targeted therapies are reshaping outcomes for people living with NMOSD.

In this webinar, Professor Vincent van Pesch will discuss practical, real-world approaches to diagnosing and managing NMOSD in Belgium, from the first suspicious attack to long-term treatment decisions and patient follow-up. The webinar will be introduced and moderated by Doctor  Melissa Cambron.

Professor of Neurology and Associate Head of the Neurology department of the Cliniques Universitaires Saint-Luc

Dr Van Pesch obtained his medical degree in 1999 from Université Catholique de Louvain and then completed his PhD thesis in neuroimmunology in 2003. He served as neurology resident at Department of Neurology, Saint-Luc Hospital and then progressed in positions from Adjunct Clinical Head to Associate Clinical Head and finally to Adjunct Chief of Neurology Department at Cliniques Universitaires Saint-Luc. He is also responsible for a number of other services within the same place such as coordination and supervision of the neurophysiology unit and supervision and teaching of electroencephalography and evoked potentials to neurology residents.

At Université Catholique de Louvain, Dr Van Pesch is a Profssor of Neurology and is responsible for teaching neuroimmunology and cerebrospinal fluid/neurochemistry analysis as he is the Principal investigator at Neurochemistry Unit at UCL.

Dr Van Pesch also greatly contributes to scientific publications and has over 200 published papers in a number of renowned journals. He is also co-editor of Frontiers Neurology, section of Multiple Sclerosis and neuroimmunology and section of Neuroepidemiology and also Co-editor of the Acta Neurologica Belgica.

MD, PhD, neuroinflammatory specialist at AZ Sint-Jan Bruges

Melissa Cambron, MD, PhD, is a neuroinflammatory specialist at AZ Sint-Jan Bruges, a position she has held since 2018, and is affiliated with Ghent University. She completed her specialization and obtained her PhD at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB). Dr. Cambron further expanded her clinical and academic expertise through a one-year fellowship in neurology at CHRU Lille under the supervision of Professor Patrick Vermersch. Her clinical and research interests focus on neuroinflammatory and neuroimmunological disorders, including neuromyelitis optica spectrum disorders.
