The Ninth Belgian Symposium on Differential Diagnosis in Multiple Sclerosis (MS), Neuromyelitis Optica Spectrum Disorder (NMOSD), and Myelin Oligodendrocyte Glycoprotein-Associated Disease (MOGAD) was held on 7th March in La Hulpe and 28th March in Gent. This annual event brought together leading experts to discuss the latest diagnostic tools and guidelines aimed at improving accuracy in differentiating these demyelinating diseases for better patient outcomes.

The Ninth Belgian Symposium on Differential Diagnosis in Multiple Sclerosis, NMOSD, and MOGAD focused on the distinctions between these demyelinating diseases, which share overlapping clinical and radiological features but differ in aetiology, natural history, and treatment needs. Accurate differential diagnosis is crucial for improving patient outcomes. The symposium provided updated guidelines to help neurologists identify key diagnostic markers, including specific antibodies in cerebrospinal fluid and serum. Clinical red flags, such as severe optic neuritis and transverse myelitis, were highlighted as indicators for further investigation. Discussions also emphasized the importance of demographic data and response to steroid therapy in refining diagnoses.
