Christoph Kleinschnitz, born 1973, MD, Consultant of Neurology and neurological intensive care and Master of Health Business Administration (MHBA), is Professor and Head of the Department of Neurology at the University Hospital of Essen in Germany. Before his current position, he was head of the stroke unit and deputy of the Clinical Research Group for multiple sclerosis and neuroimmunology at the University of Würzburg in Germany. His clinical focus includes multiple sclerosis, stroke, and neurological intensive care, consequently, his main research interests are thrombo-inflammation, cerebrovascular disorders, and neuroimmunology, with a strong focus on translational and clinical studies. He is in the editorial board of “Stroke” and “Journal of Cerebral Blood Flow and Metabolism”, scientific advisor for multiple scientific foundations and a member of the DFG scientific program Review Board for Neuroscience. His scientific excellence led to over 350 publications (Hirsch-index of 65) and since 2019, he is the speaker of the DFG Research Unit FOR 2879: ImmunoStroke: From immune cells to stroke recovery.
